This is an update on the feedback received from last week Pinup.
After the Pin up, the focus of the project is developed using a more "EPHEMERAL" medium. So what could be more ephemeral and intangible than the signals in the air themselves ?. Therefore, instead of trying too hard to create a ideal congregation space, here, the project aims to utilize the existing flows of pedestrains and vehicles patterns on the site that already consisted of both ebb and flow and the accumulation of these in between. The in between moment from ebb and flow of pedestrain and vehicle traffic is what interest me. The moment when people stop by to wait for traffic light, cars waiting for the light to turn green, or even when their attentions are given to particular objects or phenomenons during their route. These moments of accumulation will act as an informal pattern of congregation for my project.
Another essence of the project which I mentioned above is the notion of "ephemeral". I tackled this notion by playing with the idea of microwave signals that consisted of transmitter and receiver. This will be the main communication device to transfer and receive information from the main radio tower (mothership) and all the camouflage LED screens. During the important festival such as the Hemis festival which happen every year in the exile community of Tibet in India, the sacred pole of the monastery will also be equipped with a radio transmitter and receiver that will be live feed from all the tourists taking photos and video of cham performance that happen live then this information when received by the Hemis monastery radio receiver mounted on top of their sacred pole will then be transmitted to the site in HongKong and then from here the live performance will be watched by these 100 of LED screens. The main radio tower also equipped with many other satellite dishes that would, depending on what time of year it is, will transmit different content of information.
In the center of the crosswalk, where the main congregation space will occurred and where the main composed image will be viewed is located hovering in the center is what look like a Tibetan scepter but in fact it's a wifi transmitter will have a radius of coverage about the size of the crosswalk itself. It will work in correspond to the street signs surround the 4 corners of the corsswalk informing the passerby with information that they can use free wifi with in this boundary. Once they decided to plug in to the system, information of the perforamce will be delivered to their mobile device and they can choose to follow the instructions or not. These instructions will be a walk guide tour around the corsswalk where they will see all the main composed image. Also with this idea that the wifi transmitter only have a certain radius of signal coverage, once the users are plugged they will have to circulate with in this given perimeter or else they will lost the signals.
In order to buy sometime for the peformance to take placre longer and for the passerby to occupy the center area of the corsswalk a bit longer, the vehicles coming toward the crosswalk will receive a very intricate graphic display customized for their vanatge point when they are coming colser to the crosswalk, this will grab the attention of these drivers or It can also show certain sign that will ask them to wait a bit longer for some traffic reason. This is done by an anamorphic projection customized for the vehicle vantage point.
